Reviews

As well as keeping a blog of hopeless of so-called "opinions", I'm also a chivvying, mean spirited internet book reviewer. I am old enough that I began as a chivvying mean-spirited small-press reviewer, and before that I was a self-important student press reviewer. I'd say I'm about half way through the life-cycle of a literary failure at this stage - I need to work on the drinking and self-loathing, I think.

Anyway, I review pretty much exclusively for The Zone, because I've had a long relationship with Tony and haven't really got the inclination to sell reviews elsewhere. It's something I do more or less for my own amusement, and I'm not really interested in being a "critic". Here are links to my most recent reviews:

The Fractal Prince (blog post forthcoming)
Some Kind of Fairy Tale by Graham Joyce (related blog post)
Neonomicon by Alan Moore, Jacen Burrows and others (related blog post)
Redlaw by James Lovegrove (related blog post)
Off the Grid by Dan Kolbert (related blog post)

Supergods by Grant Morrison (related blog post)
Super Sad True Love Story (related blog post)
The Quantum Thief by Hannu Rajaniemi (related blog post)
The Noise Within by Ian Whates (related blog post)

Obviously, I'll add to this as I write more reviews.

Alan Moore
I have a particular affection for the work of Alan Moore. I wrote a reasonably complete profile of him here, and have reviewed the following:
The DC Universe: Stories of Alan Moore
From Hell
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Vol 2
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Black Dossier

Interviews
I've done a handful of interviews over the years, too. It's not my natural environment - I'm a ranting misanthrope by inclination - but I think I've made a decent fist of it. I'm particularly pleased with my interviews of Moorcock and Kim Newman.

Michael Moorcock
Kim Newman
Kazuaki Kiriya (with Richard Bowden)
M John Harrison

Author profiles
I've also written a few longer pieces on specific authors: Alan Moore, as mentioned above, Bruce Sterling and Jack Vance.
