I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you think.
I've downloaded and shall read it. Any particular kind of feedback you're looking for?
ReplyDeleteWell, nothing in particular but all praise is gratefully accepted!
ReplyDeleteThis served two purposes for me. Just getting it out of my system was something of a relief, after the frustration of two false starts. I'm pondering getting leaflets printed up - maybe fifty, or so - and selling them at... uh, well, yeah, that's the question!
Secondly, I just wanted to investigate how to publish stuff on the web using a non-critical but not totally pointless bit of writing. This is clearly a tyro work, but having potentially sold twice already I felt it was good enough to put out there without being so vital to me that I'd kick myself if I screwed it up.
a I've a novel that I'm still hoping to sell in the old fashioned way, but as hope dminishes, this looks like a good alternative. That's a stronger, more mature work, and there's more at stake for me, so I wanted to get the hang of it using something I was happy to "waste" as it were on fumbling first steps. In fact, it's all fumbling first steps!
The dream, obviously, is that I can build enough momentum to get some attention for my next novel (which I'm working on now). Well, we'll see if Dame Internet smiles on me!
Now downloaded it and will give some feedback when I've read it.
ReplyDeleteDerek Metzger!?!
ReplyDeleteBit of mid-90s irony, there. Probably had to grow up in New Zealand in the 70s to get that one...
ReplyDeleteI came upon this page by accident after following a link on another page (http://philosophicalasides.blogspot.com/p/another-page-of-currently-unknown.html). It's all good, though. I was once a voracious reader of every piece of short SF I could lay hands on, and I'll be interested to have a look at your State of Change. Thanks for posting it!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love that you have a "kids today don't know they're born" tag in your blog. Old curmudgeons rule!
I hope you enjoy it, Varley Fan! There are links to some of my short stories on the "My writing" page, too.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but as I read "State of Change," it began evoking pleasant memories of "Riders of the Purple Wage." Good fun, and thanks again for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteHm, I must have read that because I read Dangerous Visions (and Again, Dangerous Visions) many years ago, but I don't recall it now. I think I share PJF's sense of humour, at least!
ReplyDeleteAnyway,I'm pleased you enjoyed it! I'm still hacking away and maybe there'll be more fiction here soon.
